50/50

I know I'm probably making a BOLD statement this early on and it's not even out yet but I'm just going to say it anyways...this movie will definitely be one of my favorite movies this year!

I've been following this movie ever since I heard James McAvoy was attached  to play the lead. Then I got sad when I heard he dropped out...then I got excited again when JGL replaced him! It's been a roller coaster ride. And now to finally see the trailer...I can't wait!!    Check out the website!

SPIN Magazine: Listening In...

A fun survey I took from my recent issue of SPIN Magazine...

What was the last concert you attended?
Well it wasn't really a concert, but the last show I attended was this past weekend; Aloe Blacc and The Grand Scheme at The Music Box in Hollywood. The show was fire!! Aloe killed it! He even got us to do the Soul Train line...literally. He split the crowd in half and people started dancing down the line. It was amazing!

Name a band that a co-worker turned you on to.

I love when people recommend bands/artists to me! Although my friend Nick has never been my co-worker, he is one of my favorite people in the world and turned me onto my new obession, Fitz & The Tantrums. I wrote about them back in March...Get Familiar: Fitz & The Tantrums

If you were to curate a festival, who would be on the bill?

OMG, this would be a dream if I was given this opportunity.  I'd have Fitz & The Tantrums, Aloe Blacc, Mayer Hawthorne, Paolo Nutini, Jamie Lidell, Eli "Paperboy" Reed, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Joss Stone, Rapheal Saadiq, Adele and I'd have a surprise closing performance from Amy Winehouse. How sick would this festivals be? I'd call it "The Soul Revival"

What was the last song that made you cry?
"One and Only" by Adele

Name a playlist on your iPod.
I actually have a playlist called "Mad Men" that's inspired by the TV show. It has tracks from Mary Wells, Patsy Cline, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Connie Francis and Brenda Lee...I love that playlist!

What was the first record you bought with your own money?
I can't really remember, but it was either TLC's "Fan Mail" or NSYNC's "No Strings Attached" (yep I was one of those girls)

Hidden Gem: HANNA

I know "Fast Five" is the talk of the town these days, BUT if you're kinda over the franchise let me recommend an equally action packed film with a killer soundtrack that will blow your mind...HANNA

HANNAstarring Saoirse Ronan, is the story of a 16-year-old girl who is raised by her father, an ex CIA (played by the oh so attractive Eric Bana) in the wilds of Finland to be the perfect assassin....and let me tell you, this girl is BADASS! She's then dispatched on a mission across Europe, tracked by a ruthless intelligence agent (played by the amazing Cate Blanchett) who's out to kill her, that is of course if she can catch her.

This film is not stop action from beginning to end and Saoirse's performance is one to be remembered. She's a beast! Don't want to give to much of the story away but I will say it ends with a bang! Director Mr. Joe Wright, who's mostly known for his epic period piece dramas ("Pride and Prejudice" and "Atonement") brings you his signature trademark, very long and complicated tracking shots, in one of the tightest fight scenes since JGL in Inception last year. A must see!

It's like a "Heatwave"

Chiddy Bang is trying really hard to make it on my favorite artists of 2011 list and so far they're doing a pretty damn good job. Their new single "Heatwave" feat the adorable Mac Miller, samples Martha Reeves & The Vandellas classic hit of the same name and it's f*ckin fire! Love it!

Can't wait for their official debut album to drop this summer =)

Documentary Spotlight: Street Art

Today I had the pleasure of checking out one of the coolest exhibits "Art In The Streets" at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. I highly recommend everybody check it out before it leaves...you have all summer (until August 8th to be exact) "Art in the Streets" is the first major historical exhibition of graffiti and street art which documents the origins and history of the movement in the United States and traces its influence as it spread around the world.
Seeing this amazing exhibit got me thinking of some of my favorite documentaries that follow some of the same street artist I saw today.

"Bomb It!" (2007) tells the story of contemporary graffiti, tracing it's roots in ancient rock paintings through Picasso to it's place in hip hop culture in 1970s New York City. Filmmaker Jon Reiss travels five continents to reveal graffiti's history, cultural impact and social relevance. To see the graffiti in places like Dublin and Madrid will blow your mind!

"Beautiful Losers" (2008) explores the world of a group of underground artists who began influencing areas from fashion and film to music and pop culture in the early 1990s. Great interviews from some of the movements most notable players including Shepard Fairey.

"Exit Through the Gift Shop" (2010) the inside story of Street Art. It follows an eccentric shop-keeper turned amatuer film-maker as he attempts to capture many of the world's most infamous vandals on camera, only to have British stencil artist Banksy turn the camcorder back on its owner. Nominated for Best Documentary at the 2011 Academy Awards.

NETFLIX THEM!!! & for more info on "Art in the Streets" check out the MOCA website
