DJ Wick-It is my new hero!

Now I loves me some mash-up mixtapes and I have a lot of favorites, but this sh*t right here (in my Katt Williams voice) is my newest obsession. DJ Wick-It has just rocked my world with this insane mixtape "The Brothers of Chico Dusty" taking The Black Keys "Brothers" album and mashing it so well with Big Boi's "Sir Luscious Left Foot."

and thank me later :)

Hip Hop loves The Beatles

and so do I!

First it was Danger Mouse back in 2004 when he took Jay Z's "The Black Album" and mixed it perfectly with The Beatles "White Album" creating the oh so amazing "Gray Album." Then earlier this year producer Tom Caruana combined the Brits with some Wu Tang raps calling it "Enter the Magical Mystery Chambers." And now Evidence of Dilated Peoples jumps on board with his new mixtape "I Don't Need Love" But not only does Evidence rap over The Beatles track, but he also incorporates rare interviews making this combination a must hear.

Get Familiar - CHINESE MAN

A trio of French producers that uses mostly instrumental hip hop beats combined with African, Latin and even Indian music. Some of the sickest stuff I've ever heard. Do yourself a favor, and get familiar with Chinese Man.

Throwback Thursday

(this one's for you Nick)

You will always be Dirk Diggler to me

With all the attention Mr. Marky Mark has been receiving for his "knockout" performance in THE FIGHTER, I wanted to take it back to the movie I first fell in love with him in...BOOGIE NIGHTS (1997)

Mark plays a young guy named Eddie Adams who eventually transform into Dirk Diggler, the porn star. Set in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the film is a tribute to the decor, style, culture, and social attitudes of the era. A killer ensemble cast including, Burt Reynolds, Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly, and Don Cheadle also directed by Mr. Paul T. Anderson. It's a must see/own! Netflix :)

The Black Keys are my "Brothers"

It's about damn time!

As some of you may know (or could care less) the Grammy Award nominations were announced last week, and though the Grammys' are becoming less and less about the music these days; i.e. Taylor Swift winning 'Album of The Year' last year, I am super excited that one of my favorite bands is finally getting some love. The Black Key's album 'Brothers' picked up 5 nominations including 'Best Rock Song' for Tighten' Up.

The Black Keys have never sounded better! Teaming up with the one and only Danger Mouse on their last album 'Attack & Release' was the best thing ever. So it was only logic for them to continue that amazing collaboration with this album. 'Brothers' is filled with that funky, bluesy, raw sound that only The Black Keys could make. Check it out!

Also, check out BlakRoc, which is a side project the duo made with some of hip hop's heavyweights. It's pretty f*cking amazing!

The man behind the dream

"Thought: Why does man kill? He kills for food. And not only food: frequently there must be a beverage." - Woody Allen

It's only right that I start my blog off praising the man that inspires me to want to make great comedies...Mr. Woody Allen. Many people are quick to write Mr. Allen off for reasons regarding his personal life. Yes, he married his adopted daughter when she was only 16, but who are we to judge. I try not to think about it.

However, many forget that Mr. Allen is one of the most prolific American directors of his generation, who has written, directed and more often than not, starred in a film just about every year since 1969. He even has more Academy Award nominations (14 to be exact) for writing than anyone else. He's the man!

Now, if you're not too familiar with this man's work, let me make a few suggestions to get you started:

Start off with his classics...

"Annie Hall"  - 1977
(Winner of 4 Academy Awards including 'Best Picture')

"Manhattan" - 1979

"Hannah and Her Sisters" - 1986
(Winner of 3 Academy Awards)

...then move on to some recent hits...
"Vicky Cristina Barcelona" - 2008

"Match Point" - 2005

...and if you want more, try some of my favorites...

"Bullets Over Broadway" - 1994

"Take the Money and Run" - 1969
